the bbc have announced the new companion for series 5 to star along side matt smith as the doctor the 21 year old is littel known to poeple but she has stared in dr who before being a Soothsayer in The Fires Of Pompeii.
she says
"I am absolutely over the moon at being chosen to play the Doctor's new companion.-I just can't wait to get started,".

Incredible actor
"The show is such a massive phenomenon that I can't quite believe I am going to be a part of it.
"Matt Smith is an incredible actor and it is going to be so much fun to act alongside him," she added.
Head of Drama, BBC Wales, Piers Wenger said she brings "energy and excitement" to the role.
When she auditioned alongside Matt we knew we had something special," he said.

The 2010 series is a crucial one for the programme. David Tennant has been such a big part of the show's success,that expectations for his successor are huge.

So the choice of a relative unknown to accompany the new Doctor in The Tardis is an unsurprising one.

If a well-known actress had been chosen, there would always be the danger that they would overshadow Matt Smith in his first series.

And The Doctor needs to be the main focus of the show, even though the companion role is much more significant now than it was in the classic series between 1963 and 1989.

Writer and executive producer Steven Moffat said they saw some "amazing actresses" but Gillan "walked through the door the game was up".

Gillan, from Inverness, developed a love for acting after attending several youth theatre groups and taking part in various school productions.

At the age of 16, she decided to pursue her career further and left school to study acting at Edinburgh's Telford College.

She went on to secure a place at the Italia Conti drama school in London and landed her first role in the Scottish drama Rebus.

Parts in Channel 4's Stacked, The Kevin Bishop Show and James Nesbitt's forthcoming film Outcast followed, but the role in Doctor Who is her first high profile to date.

BBC reporter, Lizo Mizimba recently said on his Twitter page that BBC Films are currently in production of a Doctor Who movie script The BBC haven't confirmed that they will be making a Doctor Who movie but the script is in production. You can read the Twitter message from Lizo Mizimba below:
"BBC Films have confirmed a Dr Who film script is in development. But if it does go into full production that's likely to be some time away. So, to be clear, it's not guaranteed a Dr Who movie will be made. All BBC Films are doing is developing a script, before making a decision."

This month's Doctor Who Magazine has revealed some details about the upcoming third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures. Executive producer Russell T Davies tells the publication that David Tennant will be starring in a two-part story due to be screened in the Autumn.

Also joining the Tenth Doctor is the robotic mutt, K9 but RTD is keen to stress that this is no fleeting appearance by David Tennant. The writer says, "... it's more than just a cameo from the Tenth Doctor! He's a proper part of the story." He also adds that the two-parter is "extraordinary, wild and powerfully moving," cryptically adding, "let's just say that the wedding of Sarah Jane will be a day for everyone to remember!"

The as yet unnamed tale is written by Gareth Roberts (The Unicorn and the Wasp) who has penned a number of stories for the award-winning show. Other writers for the Series 3 of SJA include Phil Ford (Eye of the Gorgon), Joseph Lidster (The Mark of the Berserker), Brian Dooley (creator of The Smoking Room) and Rupert Laight.

well last night was jam packed with the cast and crew all there to greet farewell to RTD and tennant so here's what happened:

Arrived there around 6:50pm although the party didn't start till 7pm:

There were a lot of people there to name a few, the usuals were there Tennant RTD. Jullie Garnder as well the the production team.

I Managed to see Paul Cornell who was instresting to talk to, Ben Cook and Tom pillsbury from DWM were so thats nice. The night was mostly people gathering around David and Russell to greet farewell and say thanks on behalf of the crew.

The party went on the early hrs, there were waitresses going around with champaign and the ordurves. there was a Bar there serving up drinks as well as food which wasn't bad.

I couldn't take any photos as they were prohibited i think they want to relax without all the publicity that follows it. it was calm and relaxed mood throughout the night.

The people who i did manage to have a talk to such as ben cook and tom Spilsbury didn't want to spill the beans on anything thats coming so i just chatted to them for a while although most of them did have a lot to drink

At the end both Russell and David did a farewell speech in front of all the guests congratulating on all the hard work they did and praising the effort on the show. Finally he said can't wait for the new production to start in July so its all exciting to come

i left around 11:30pm by that time the party atmosphere was dying down and most of the guests were drunk or round about that

Nothing new or anything revealing came out of this party as i suspect that people want to relax after all the hard work and the last thing they need is people snooping about.

However i did manage towards the end get a greeting from tennant himself who is very nice and asked if any new projects coming up he said "just have to wait and see".

Asked to paul cornell if he's writing series 5 he had this say "maybe or maybe not just wait"

overall Not bad i would say this is the best party i been to in a long time

Tonight's the Night - Special Doctor Who Scene

Today the specially recorded Doctor Who scene will air as part of John Barrowman's Tonight's the Night Tim Ingham was selected as the winner for the design a monster competition for the scene judged by John Barrowman,Denise van Outen and Doctor Who casting Director Andy Prior. It is set in the Tardis with John Barrowman as Captain Jack and with Tim Ingham as the alien which he quoted himself "the pinnacle of my life so far" It's written by Russell T Davies(The last ever Doctor Who televised story he's written, but not the last aired)and is directed by Alice Troughton It's said to be a deft mixture of humour drama and the unexpected. There will also be a behind the scenes on the special within the episode of Tonight's the Night.

BBC Wales Controller Menna Richards has recently issued a circular to affected BBC staff to advise that the project was being considered, with one planned site been in the Cardiff Bay area of the city.

“During our staff meeting on April 22 I said that I’d let you know about developments in BBC Wales’ property plans.

We’ve been given the go-ahead to conduct further feasibility work on our preferred option of a drama village to accommodate all BBC Wales in-house dramas.

“What this means is that the potential drama village locations have been narrowed down and our preferred option is Roath Basin in Cardiff Bay.

“There’s further detailed work to be done before we’re in a position to reach agreement and we hope to be able to announce further details later this summer.”

The move would have implications for both Doctor Who and potentially the hospital drama Casualty, traditionally produced by BBC Bristol but has been brought under control of BBC Wales.

But insiders claim he is hoping to crack the film market — with a Doctor Who movie his first project.

His agent listed the movie as part of Russ’s credits on his web profile, but took it down after net geeks rumbled it.

A source said: “He is secretive about Doctor Who. Let's hope the rumours are right.”

After yesterdays inside filming Benjamin Cook commented on twitter that "that's a wrap" indicating that Tennant has finished filming on Who


Of course there might be pick ups and other minor things but it looks like maybe the main filming is over We might not see another Tennant set report again for Who.


Benjamin Cook also quoted David Tennant from the set yesterday as saying "I'm like an uncool spiderman" which of course led to an outburst of speculation as to what he was doing kissing upside down wearing some kind of skin-tight suit(MAYBE FOR REGENERATION)or maybe it was completely UN-who related.


Either way Tennants time filming may be over but we've still go 3 specials to go and all the interviews and extra media goodness that comes with them.

Gareth Roberts To Write For Doctor Who Series Five?

According to his official agency website Gareth Roberts will be one of the writers for the fifth series of Doctor Who which is scheduled for transmission next year on the website his portfolio has recently been updated with information stating that he will write one episode for the series which will see Matt Smith take on the role of the 11th Doctor and Steven Moffat become the programme's head writer. Gareth Roberts has previously written episodes for both Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures and most recently helped Russell T Davies co-write the latest episode of Doctor Who which was titled Planet of the Dead. He will also be contributing some scripts for the upcoming third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures

filming report from last nights filming

This report from Starship Trooper;

Well I arrived around 9.30'ish

The crew/cameras were all set up with a tent by the side for the actors/crew etc and monitors.

Snow, amazing graffiti and lots of Christmas lights from balconies/ buildings.

It was unbelievably quiet - which was the best thing about it, no loud annoying crowds or trouble at all (accept for the in-ebriated lady who was over excited and the in-ebriated angry lady who insisted upon walking her dog through the middle of the roped off scene area on the parade! Of course David & Bill took this in their stride!

The parade was sealed off at both ends - the Tardis was there parked by the side all lit up nicely.

Billy & Camille were filming their stuff for a couple of hours, then David arrived!

There was some funny horseplay between filming and obvious affection between David and Billy they seemed really happy to be filming together again.

They bounced over to us from nowhere and chatted, signed autographs, had photos done (Billy couldn't give us her toothy grin as she had a mouth full of bournbon biccies!) - well there were so few of us and it was a nice atmosphere in which to meet them no mobbing, screeching or demanding fans - just us and them! (Oh and the wonderfully dedicated Vicster & her friend!)

How brilliant is that!

So that's when David & Billy asked us to please not reveal or post about anything we see or hear being filmed - darn it! Like I said earlier tho - can't refuse the Doctor!

It was amazing being on the 'Powell Estate' seeing it for real, with snow! (At brief moments a mini blizzard was being whipped up!) where it all begun...full circle...

Due to the closeness we were able to really observe the filming process and Euros/ Julie G/ Danny H/ Camille/ Billy/ David etc at work which was very insightful.

The locals must all have been 'darn' the boozer init!'

There were some kids hanging out on the balconies opposite but not many and really well behaved whenever hush was called for by the crew they got it.

Sadly can't say anymore - the paps were there and if they print pics/ spoilers then I guess it'll be alright for me to post the pics etc that I've got.

Although annoyingly my camera isnt working right now so It's off to ASDA to copy the pics etc to disc then at least I can post the photo of me an Bill!

The third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures is getting underway, with all of the scripts completed. Filming is now taking place. The last we saw of Sarah and the team was on Red Nose Day, fighting of the Slitheen with K9. The producers of this series tell us that it's going to be the scariest and darkest series yet!

The last time we saw the Trickster was back in series two when he tempted Sarah to change history in "Temptation of Sarah Jane Smith". His first appearance was in "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane Smith?", in which he tried to make the world forget that Sarah existed. Now he's returned to probably start all over again, but with more tricks up his long black sleeves.

Not only The Trickster, but the Graske will return, and this series Doctor Who returning monster is the Judoon, last seen in "The Stolen Earth". The Graskes first appearance was in Doctor Who's "Attack of the Graske" and "Music of the Spheres". Since then, he's been by the Tricksters side. Played by Jimmy Vee. The Judoon have been seen on the Sarah Jane set with the Doctor. Does this mean the time lord will pay a visit to the attic?

tonight the night dr who mini episode david tennant appears

In 2 weeks Tonights The Night will transmit their mini episode of Doctor Who featuring the the winner of their alien competition.

And David Tennant is in it!

All the taping of the alien competition was done two weeks ago, so although its spread across a couple of weeks on TV, its already decided, done, dusted and recorded! And heres what happens...

They had Captain Jack coming across the alien in the Tardis who initially claims that hes the regenerated Doctor. Much amusing flirting ensues until the fact that he has a weapon on his arm clues Jack into the fact that hes a villain, at which point they start fighting. Halfway through the death threats and fighting David Tennant dressed in off duty clothes (including a bright orange t-shirt) randomly walks on the set and asks John what hes doing. Both John and alien then sheepishly admit that they're just playing around on the Tardis set. David tells John that "It's my Tardis. Mine" before miming that hes keeping an eye on the alien before walking off at which point they switch back to being Jack and the alien fighting each other.

a new mini episode of dr who

Tonights the Night, presented by John Barrowman is running a competition to let one viewer take part in a special Doctor Who scene, working with the Doctor Who production team, and shot on the set of the TARDIS. The scene will star the winner alongside Captain Jack Harkness.

Viewers were invited to submit a photograph of themselves in a home-made alien costume, along with information about their alien. Over the next three weeks, viewers of Tonights the Night will see a parade of aliens, Doctor Who casting director Andy Pryor, and a team of judges will be selecting the best. The top ten aliens will face the judges!

The winner will film a scene in the TARDIS to be broadcast during Tonights The Night on May 23rd starting at 6.55pm on BBC1.

john denise rumors of return

(POSSIBLE SPOILERS) Well, he might as well have said that - John Barrowman claimed at the Torchwood Children of Earth press launch this week that he regularly goes out dressed as Captain Jack Harkness, and this must be why he had been snapped on location in Cardiff, not because he was filming scenes from David Tennant's final Doctor Who adventure.

"I actually go to the supermarket dressed as Captain Jack and that was a picture of me running from Tesco to my car and some paparazzi photographed me and they superimposed David there and that's what that is,"

Speaking to Metro, Barrowman was incredulous that he had been caught on camera on set - although in fairness the interview perhaps should have used the correct terminology as it's possible Barrowman hasn't been into the studio yet.

"I know its a little weird, i dress up as Captain Jack but as I said I love him and that's why there is a picture of me in the press dressed as Captain Jack."

When first shown the picture, John said: "A picture? On the Doctor Who set for one of the specials? What's that? I don't understand, there's a picture? Of me on the set? I don't know.

i am thinking of doing a 13 part series of dr who its stars the 11 doctor and it continus after the advent of the 10 doctor regeneration but i am not sure of wat to do to put it on the site or not i want to know wat you all think and please comment

rather busy

hi everyone my life is starting to get rather busy and stuff i have loads of thing coming up in school and in 2 months i will be going on my holiday with my family then there the six weeks holidays i wont be busy then but i dont know wat im doing and after that im in year 11 and so the start of year 11 i will be doing work experience shoud be good so if i dont post anythink for like a week it mean im rather busy or doing somthink els or on holiday

rose and the other-married what are your reactions

hi everyone i wan to know what are your reactions to the other doctor and rose as weknow yesterday combom got an email of somone who apparently said that the other doctor and rose are gonna be in the final and that rose second name has changed to smith (there are loads of smiths in dr who) so could this mean shes married and could it mean that she is pregnant we shall find out at xmas and one more thing they are only in one scene

my reactions how they come in it for one scene
i reckon that rose and the doctor are just sitting down or doing somthink else talking and wen the doctor starts to regenerate the other doctor can sence that he is regenerating and tells rose whats happening

234 days till xmas final your song is ending he is returning

now if im wright its 234 days to go if im wright i will have to recount again as everyone can tell it is going to be a long long long year till we get to xmas and rtd said it is going to be a big long drought and we are going to be bored i am bored its only been wat about 3 4 weeks since we seen dr who potd and xmas looks like a big one its gonna be good role on xmas

tennant in sja s3?

as we all know david is still filming dr who at the moment and sja has started filmingbut they're being very secretive. Apparently Tennant was at the read through for SJA which obviously indicates he's going to be in one of the episodes, but thats about as far as we know.
Until now!
On the 20th April there was some filming in Penarth which included Tennant and the TARDIS. It might have included other things but the security was very very tight.
and david is wearingthe same clothes as he is for the last special, which can only suggest that this is him in an episode of SJA!

rose and the other doctor

when i loged online today i went strait onto comboms site and i seen that there was news about rose and the other doctor coming back for david tennants final apparently earlier this afternoon combom got a email off somone informing that they found out that david is going up to london on Friday to shoot a scene with Billie Piper. And it is literally just the one scene. Episode 4.18, Scene 163 to be precise. They're going to be out on location in a reasonably public place so there's some chance of photos but doesnt know if it is specific and incase that hordes of dr who fan go looking and they find the location (witch they probaly might) and theres no idea wat the scene might be about but on the call sheeet it has the characters as "The Other Doctor" and "Rose Smith" so wounder wat gonna happen it looks like rose has married the other doctor
and there this bit to Sarah Janes cameo farewell scene is scene 153 and the scene in the bookstore is scene 155, so scene 163 isn't too high

the masters toe just a joke

it must be a cuople of weeks now since i made a joke up about the masters toe on comboms site and today and everyday we are still talking about it were making jokes about it and stuff about the swine flu witch we shoudnt but i made it up a couple of weeks ago when i was telling combom somthink that i cant remember now and only a couple of poeple know about it but no one is reporting us so its fine to do it

June Whitfields Character Name Revealed

DWM408 have printed some information about June Whitfields character in the Doctor Who Christmas episode.

June will play a charter called Minnie Hooper, so the Sun where wrong again! They claimed she was to be called Henrietta Goodheart and the episode called Beautiful Chaos, but they got all that from a book of the same name, read about it here. Thanx to Gabz for the heads up about the book BTW
